After a breakthrough season in Motorsport which included a championship podium, five race wins, ten podiums, four pole positions, two fastest laps and a nomination for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award, Olli continues to receive recognition from the sports media. This time it comes in the shape of the newly formed Motorsport Awards operated by Motorsport Media.
Olli has been nominated for all three driver categories with the first being Star of theFuture (Driver). A total of ten drivers made the shortlist and they include Formula One driver, Charles Leclerc. GP3 Series driver and Red Bull Junior, Callum Ilott and BTCC driver Aiden Moffatt. It has spread across all forms of the sport with Olli being one of the few junior single seater drivers to make the cut.
Given how quickly Olli has progressed this season it will come to many as no surprise with a bright future ahead.
The second category that Olli has been nominated for is Young Driver of the Year. As with most categories there are a total of ten nominations and this is one Olli should certainly be a favourite for! Of all on the shortlist Olli is one of very few to have flown the flag for the UK overseas racing against the World’s best with plenty of success!
Not only that but Olli made history by becoming the first ever driver in the Italian F4 championship to finish in the points in all 21 races during the course of the season with a worst finish of 10th. That certainly deserves some recognition!
The third and final category that Olli has been nominated for is Best battle in a race. This was for his podium in race two at round five of the ADAC F4 championship. The fifth round would be no ordinary race as it would support the German Formula One Grand Prix at Hockenheim. After taking a podium there back at round two Olli was confident of a good result but disaster struck after he was forced to retire early into race one.
Now having to start from 8th on the grid chances of walking away with a trophy were slim, but with a huge crowd gathered and all of his sponsors in support Olli managed to pull off a brilliant performance in front of the most influential audience in Motorsport. He put on a stunning drive to calve his way through the lead group and challenge for the lead. Olli would eventually have to settle for 2nd but it was nevertheless one of his best performances of the season in a weekend where the pressure could have easily become too much.

Olli Caldwell: “To be nominated in all three driver categories of the Motorsport Awards is a huge honour. It came as a big surprise, but when I was told about the news I couldn’t believe some of the names I had been nominated alongside. This season has been a real breakthrough for me in my career and to receive yet more recognition means a lot. The support I have had so far in the voting process has been amazing but there is still a long way to go and I hope with continued support we can be successful at the end of it. Winning an award would not only be good for me, but it’d be a great way to thank everyone who has supported me in 2018 and a real boost to take me into bigger and better things in 2019.”
“I’d like to say a big thanks to everyone who has voted for me so far and a thank you in advance to everyone who continues to vote for me over the next few weeks! Your support really does make a difference.”
Voting Closes on Monday December 3rd at 8pm.
