The Mugello circuit in Italy will play host to the penultimate round of the Formula Regional European Championship. After a frustrating weekend in Barcelona last time out, Olli will be hoping to get himself back on the podium as he continues to fight for third in the standings. A win and six podiums have helped Olli to fifth in the table so far and he now has a gap of 32 points to chase to David Schumacher.
Olli is no stranger to the Mugello podium. The track based just north of Florence hosted the Italian F4 season finale last year with Olli taking two podiums securing him third in the championship. Olli will be hoping to repeat or better that result this weekend and put himself in a strong position before the final round at Monza.
Mugello is one the longest circuits on the calendar and one of the fastest too! The fourteen corners provide high speed sweeping corners with big elevation changes all that suit the Formula 3 cars perfectly. It also has one of the biggest start/finish straights on the calendar which sits at 1.141km.
It provides a great opportunity to overtake which could provide some exciting racing over the weekend. One thing that will come into play will be tyre wear, with multiple high speed corners the cars will be hard on the tyre and in 30 minute races keeping life in the tyres will be key. It’s a skill Olli has demonstrated he certainly does have over the course of the season and it could help him to podium finishes this weekend.
When it comes to the championship Olli’s main competitors are David Schumacher and Igor Fraga. He’ll be looking to get a solid qualifying and get in a position to outscore the pair in every race to reduce the gap significantly before Monza. A bad result will give Olli a huge job to do at Monza so he’ll have to take a tactical approach into the weekend.
Olli was unlucky to be forced off the podium in the first race at Barcelona, can he bounce back and turn that luck around at Mugello?
