It was a fantastic start to the ADAC F4 season for Olli Caldwell at Oschersleben after he wrapped up the weekend by taking his first win. In the process the Prema Theodore Racing driver became just the second British driver in the championships history to win and sits fourth in the championship heading into Hockenheim.
This weekend carries even more importance than being the second round of the championship as it will be the last time Olli races there before the championship goes back in July to support the Formula One German Grand Prix. As well as being a chance to race in front of 60,000+ spectators each day it will be his first opportunity to impress the big bosses in the industry and prove himself as one to watch.
However, that will be far from the 15-year-olds mind who will be racing on the legendary 2.8 mile long Grand Prix circuit for the first time. It’s a track that is perfect for close racing, with the straight between turns four and six providing lots of overtaking opportunities. Along with that there are several flowing sections which provide the opportunity to break away if you’re out front.
The second round this weekend will see the championship support the DTM championship. As one of the biggest championships in the World the grandstands will be packed and as Olli’s first time racing with the DTM’s the experience will be good leading into the F1 event later this year.
As for the racing itself Olli’s goals will have risen from round one after his superb performance in race three which saw him drive away from the entire field out front. The only thing that let Olli down was his qualifying performance so the goal this weekend will certainly be getting that sorted out. Should Olli qualify well the results should follow with more potential wins and podiums certainly on the cards.
Like the rest of his competitors Olli was able to participate in some pre-season testing at Hockenheim which were all extremely positive. As long as there are no major problems the current championship position of 4th should be consolidated, or even improved!
Olli Caldwell: "I’m really looking forward to Hockenheim this weekend. We'll certainly be looking to carry forwards the success we had at the last round in Oschersleben. Pre-Season testing there went really well and with a great team around me I am feeling very confident this season!"
All three races will be streamed live on https://www.ollicaldwell.com/live with updates also going out on social media.
