Tomorrow Olli Caldwell will take to the Red Bull Ring circuit in Austria for round four of the ADAC F4 Championship. The Prema Theodore Racing driver is currently sitting 7th in the championship with a win and two podiums already under his belt. But in comparison to his current 2nd place in the Italian F4 Championship Olli will be looking to move up the order this weekend at a track where his team were successful at last year taking two wins out of three!
Based in Spielberg the circuit was founded all the way back in 1969 originally under the name of Österreichring before eventually being changed to the Red Bull Ring back in 2011. It’s held several Formula One Grand Prix since then and is a great proving ground for Olli as well as a crucial stage of the season.
This will be Olli’s first time racing at the Ring and with testing very limited the field should be a lot more even than other circuits on the calendar this season, particularly for someone like Olli who is the only Brit in the field!
As for the track it’s just over 2.6 miles in length and with a first sector that consists of two long straights after turn one there should be lots of overtaking similar to what was seen at Hockenheim. The second half of the circuit is very fast and flowing creating a high average speed which is where we could see races decided early on.
With the Hockenheim round on the support bill for the Formula One Grand Prix next after this, good results and a boost up the championship would be just what Olli needs to give him the tools to go and do the business on the World’s biggest stage next month!
